yogaCourse Description

This course introduces how to use yoga asanas (postures) in patient care and in personal practice to build core strength to prevent injury. The live course will cover over 30 asanas with appropriate modifications for different populations and to use props for proper alignment. The home study course, Yoga for Seniors will cover 30 asanas appropriate for our aging population with appropriate props and modification. This course is designed for all levels of fitness and does not require any prior yoga experience. Yoga is proven to help reduce back pain and inflammation and improve patient’s function and outcomes. It also helps relieve stress and bring about a greater understanding of body mechanics, movement patterns and efficient and healthy moments. Increase your treatment effectiveness with this holistic approach.

The live lecture offers 6 credit hours and the home study course offers another 6 credit hours. The home study course is titled Yoga for Seniors and comes free with this program. The home study course materials are distributed at the seminar. Participants recieve a 6 hour certificate at the end of the seminar and will receive the 6 hour home study certificate when the test/evaluation is completed.

It is suggested (not mandatory)to bring a an exercise mat or towel and dress comfortably. It is not mandatory to exercise to recieve credit.

Course Agenda

8:00 A.M.–8:25A.M. REGISTRATION
8:30 A.M.–3:30 P.M. The course begins at 8:30 A.M. and adjourns at 3:30 P.M. Lunch (on own) is from 11:30 A.M. - 12:20 P.M. Certificates are distributed upon course completion. Full attendance required and ALL participants must complete a course evaluation.

Course Instructor

Annie Clark, OTR/L is an occupational therapist whose background includes acute care inpatient, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation settings. She currently works in school districts in the Telluride area and early intervention. Annie is also an autism coach and trainer with the Colorado Department of Education. In this role Annie trains teachers and therapists on best practices and intervention for autism spectrum disorders. She is also co-leader of the autism team in this area and she provides in-depth autism evaluations and trainings for school districts, families, libraries and adaptive ski programs. Annie began her studies of yoga in 1994 and has been teaching for 15 years. She has explored many types of yoga including traditional hatha yoga, ashtanga yoga and Iyengar yoga. Annie has studied in India and taught in studios nationally and internationally. She is currently a dedicated Iyengar yoga student who is devoted to practice and using her yoga therapy in patient care. Annie is a passionate and enthusiastic instructor. In all of her classes and courses she brings clear and precise instruction. Annie works to inspire all of her patients, clients, and fellow therapists that working with the body; mind and heart can lead to true healing and transformation..
